There is a story of grace in the book of 2 Samuel. Jonathan, the son of
King Saul, had a son who was crippled, and after Jonathan's death in
battle ... King David gave him back all his father's lands ... his
family's wealth ... servants ... and what had been lost in battle ...
for the sake of Jonathan. And most importantly ... he was given a place
at the King's table as one of the King's sons.
Our inheritance ... our place at the King's table ... is only through
the grace and mercy bestowed upon us by the love of Christ. That we may
have an eternal place at God's table ... not because of what we have
done ... or what we have paid ... but simply because of who we are in
our adoption by the precious blood of Christ.
2 Samuel 9: 7
And David said to him, Fear not: for I will surely show you kindness for
Jonathan your father's sake, and will restore you all the land ... and
you shall eat bread at my table continually
2 Samuel 9: 11
According to all that my lord the king has commanded ... he shall eat at
my table, as one of the king's sons
Luke 22: 29-30
And I appoint to you a kingdom, as my Father has appointed to me ...
That you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom
