Phil Robertson of Duck Dynasty Garners Criticism for 'Anti-Gay' Comments:
In the controversy over the suspension of Phil Robertson from Duck Dynasty, I think we may be looking at the wrong issues.
Criticism was made, among other things, over his Robertson's comments regarding homosexuality, as well as his linking it to the sin of bestiality.
First of all, Phil Robertson's statements were not mere conjecture, a random judgment of others, or 'hate speech'. Both of these beliefs come not from Phil himself, but from the Bible:
1. Homosexuality is clearly condemned in both the Old and New Testaments of the Holy Bible
Romans 1:27 - "And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly."
2. Homesexuality is linked in the Bible with other sins that God calls an abomination such as 'bestiality'.
Leviticus 18:22-23 "Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination. Neither shalt thou lie with any beast to defile thyself therewith..."
The 'link' Phil Robertson makes between homosexuality and bestiality is made by God himself. In Robertson's comments about this and other aberrant behavior condemned in the Bible, he was simply stating TRUTH.
Phil's other controversial comment regarding his personal preference for the female anatomy is merely opinion, which he also has the right to state and the freedom to have published.
Objecting to these statements amounts to the objection to the right of free speech and of the press, as well as the free exercise of religion - all of which are protected by the First Ammendment in the Bill of Rights:
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press..."
Are these rights merely from the government, or also endowed by the Creator himself, as our own Declaration of Independence states?
So, it seems that it has lately become the faulty and changing court of public opinion vs. the Bill of Rights, the Holy Bible, and even God Almighty himself.
So much in the court of public opinion is played out, and even formed by, the media. Since we know nothing much happens 'by accident' these days in our media, maybe we should also ponder these questions:
1. Why is a show like Duck Dynasty aired on a channel like A&E that has mostly ungodly shows?
2. Why did a worldly magazine like GQ do an interview with the highly conservative Phil Robertson?
3. Why did the interview go to print even knowing beforehand the volatile content of Robertson's statements?
It might be tempting to believe that there's more to this story than just people getting stirred up by several controversial comments made by a 'star' from a wildly popular TV show:
One could even speculate that it was intended to stir up trouble, or that it was a publicity stunt (or both).
GQ magazine has a very wide audience among the LGBT population due to its lifestyle articles on fashion, decor, male celebrities, and the like.
This being the case, it was undoubtedly acknowledged in advance that the interview with Phil Robertson would cause quite a stir with GQ's readers, and ultimately the media and the internet (which of course it has).
Money makes this world's system go 'round. It is no mistake that this controversy involves the highest rating television show ever.
Rather, it is most likely a daring and risky advertising stunt on the part of A&E. But there is even more to this issue, that being the clash between right and wrong and the 'root of all evil' itself.
1 Timothy 6:10 "For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows."
Through multiple publicity campaigns, the LGBT agenda is being brought to the forefront of our society, and to the front lines of the battle between good and evil.
Though many are calling Phil's comments 'hate speech', they are calling good evil just as it is said:
Isaiah 5:20 "Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!"
Many have even stated their opinion that Phil Robertson's comments are hateful and un-Christian. However, those that would call it un-Christian apparently don't understand what it really means to be a Christian.
Robertson's statements certainly cannot be un-Christian when his beliefs are directly from the Holy Bible - which is God's own word and the solid foundation for every true, Bible-believing Christian.
There is currently a clash between differing belief systems that is growing more and more apparent as the end approaches.
The Lord is dividing the sheep and the goats in these last days. Everything ultimately comes down to what decision you will make, and which side you will choose:
Joshua 24:15 "...Choose you this day whom ye will serve; but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord."
