During the Halloween season, we tend to think about things that may be frightening to us.

But God tells us in his word that we can stand firm against our fears, and even against the devil himself.

1 Peter 5:8-9

"Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist stedfast in the faith.
.."

2 Timothy 1:7

"For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."

James 4:7

"Resist the devil, and he will flee from you."

Matthew 17:18

"And Jesus rebuked the devil..."

Daily Word - Our Treasure

PictureGODLY TREASURE...
There are so many things that come up every day to try and pry us away from our focus on God.

Whether it be issues at work, problems at home, our health or any of a thousand other concerns that preoccupy of minds and hearts.

We need to battle against that strong current in our lives and rest in the calm waters and safety of the Lord Jesus Christ and his Holy word.

Matthew 6:33

"But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you."

Matthew 6:21

"For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."

Daily Word - All Things Made New

Picture1JOHN 1:5
An article dated October 14, 2014 entitled 'Scientists Erase Memories With Light' states that:

"Scientists think that they have found a way to target specific memories in mice and erase them using light."

This is reminiscent of the scenes in the movie 'Men In Black' where they erase the memories of bystanders with a device called a neuralyzer which flashes a bright light.

While scientists may know many things, their understanding of the workings of the human brain are very limited, and even more so when it comes to the properties of light.

A famous quote by inventor Thomas Edison sums it up nicely:  "We don't know a millionth of one percent about anything."

Only God has perfect knowledge.  As our omniscient Creator, He understands the working of the body and mind of humans completely.

Additionally, there are many places in the Bible which tell us that God himself is Light.  One day in the not too distant future, this Light will 'erase' all sadness and pain, and He will make 'all things new'.

1 John 1:5

"...God is light, and in him is no darkness at all."

His Light is the Light of Men...

John 1:3-5

"All things were made by him...In him was life; and the life was the light of men.  And the light shineth in darkness
."

Revelation 21:4-5

"And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new."

2 Corinthians 5:17

"T
herefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new."

Psalm 27:1

"
The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?"

Daily Word - Exhaustion

PictureISAIAH 40:29
In our own strength, we will all tire eventually.

But just as God's people were “fed daily” by manna from heaven to sustain them...

So we need to be fed daily by God’s Word to ensure we are preserved and rescued from utter exhaustion.

Isaiah 40:29

"He gives power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increases strength."

Daily Word - The Word

PictureTHE WORD OF GOD...
There are those who believe that the Bible is just a collection of stories and parables, but is not meant to encompass every aspect of our lives.

They think we can "weed out" the parts that don't fit with our modern lives and contemporary thought.  But that has been the devil's deception for over 6,000 years, since he first spoke his lies to Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden.

The Word of God ... The Bible ... is synonymous with Jesus Christ.  It is the written, spoken, living and unfailing Truth that leads to our salvation.

It is more than our "guide through life" ... it is our "path to everlasting life" and must be our one standard to follow.

John 17:17

"Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth."

John 1:1

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."

Hebrews 4:1

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Daily Word - Deathly Ill

With the breaking news each day of a new case of the Ebola virus and the fears of an epidemic of "Biblical" proportions, we see the fear of death beginning to preoccupy the minds and concerns of so many.

But the truth is this, we are all "gravely ill" (we are all dying) and cannot save ourselves.  But by God's grace, and the sacrifice of Jesus Christ at Calvary, we have been freed from these bonds of death.

Jeremiah 30:12-13 & 17

"For thus said the LORD, Your bruise is incurable, and your wound is grievous. There is none to plead your cause, that you may be bound up: you have no healing medicines. For I will restore health to you, and I will heal you of your wounds, said the LORD."

Daily Word - Daily...

We need to encourage and exhort one another daily, as the principalities of this world, and Satan himself...

Are constantly working to convince us to give up ... give in ... and turn away from Christ and our heavenly Father.

Hebrews 3:12-14

12 "Take heed, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.

13 But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin."

Daily Word - His Thoughts

PictureHIS THOUGHTS...
It is amazing to see God's never ending grace towards us.

As we can see in the book of Jeremiah, even when the Lord is chastising his people for their disobedience and their evil ways.

...And in the midst of their captivity by the Babylonians ... His wondrous grace and mercy is still given unconditionally.

Jeremiah 29:11-13

11
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, said the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

12 Then shall you call on me, and you shall go and pray to me, and I will listen to you.

13 And you shall seek me, and find me, when you shall search for me with all your heart.

Daily Word - Life Is Hard

Picture"I WILL GIVE YOU REST..."
There is a popular quote by screen writer and novelist, David Gerrold which he writes:

"Life is hard. Then you die. Then they throw dirt in your face. Then the worms eat you. Be grateful it happens in that order."

For many who do not know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, this quote may seem to hold a very insightful and profound truth.

But this line is a just another lie that the devil hopes we will believe ... like another famous lie he spoke in the Garden of Eden.

God's truth is this, however, as recorded by the apostle John ...

John 3:16

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

Matthew 11:28

"Come to me, all you that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."

Daily Word - Morality Backwards

PictureMORALITY BACKWARDS...
Too often we can see the moral fiber of our world crumbling before our eyes, even in our own country.

Amid the many new laws, court decisions and Executive Orders,  there is a blatant disregard for God, His Word and His commandments.

We are all warned of our sinful nature as it is clearly written in Isaiah:

Isaiah 5:20-21

"Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!"
